1. Information We Collect

Vain Bot collects and stores the following information to provide its services:

  • User IDs: Your Discord user ID for preference storage and personalization
  • Guild IDs: Server IDs where commands are executed
  • User Preferences: Timezone, metrics system (metric/imperial), temperature unit (Celsius/Fahrenheit)
  • Last.fm Usernames: If you choose to connect your Last.fm account
  • Command Data: We do not store the content of commands you execute (images, search queries, etc.) except as necessary for immediate processing

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely for:

  • Providing personalized bot functionality (timezone conversion, preference management)
  • Displaying your Last.fm listening history when requested
  • Caching deleted/edited messages for snipe commands (up to 3 messages per channel)
  • Storing warnings and moderation data for server administrators
  • Processing poll responses
  • Reminder management

3. Data Storage

All data is stored locally in a SQLite database. We do not:

  • Sell or share your data with third parties
  • Use your data for analytics or advertising
  • Transfer data outside our systems
  • Share data with Discord or any other service unless explicitly required by the feature

4. External APIs

Vain Bot uses the following external APIs, which may receive limited data:

  • CoinGecko API: Receives your requests for crypto prices (no personal data sent)
  • Blockchain APIs: Receives wallet addresses you query (no personal data sent)
  • Last.fm API: Only receives Last.fm usernames you explicitly provide
  • Google DNS/Translation APIs: Receives your queries (no personal data sent)
  • TikTok/YouTube/Twitter APIs: Receives search queries (no personal data sent)

5. Data Retention

Data retention periods:

  • User Preferences: Stored indefinitely until account removal
  • Snipe Cache: Stored up to 3 most recent messages per channel
  • Reminders: Stored until delivered, then deleted
  • Warnings: Stored indefinitely per server
  • Logs: Not stored persistently

6. Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us on Discord. We will delete:

  • Your user preferences
  • Your Last.fm connection
  • All reminders associated with your account
  • AFK status

7. Security

Your data is protected by:

  • Local database storage (not exposed to the internet)
  • No transmission of personal data to external services
  • Standard SQLite security practices

8. Children's Privacy

Vain Bot complies with Discord's Terms of Service, which require users to be at least 13 years old (or older in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify users of significant changes through bot announcements or on this page.
